THE LOST POEM

What would happen if the homemade flyers for lost dogs and cats were about lost poems instead? The Lost Poem, a guerrilla poetry activation, papered downtown Miami during the O, Miami Poetry Festival, in the spring of 2018. These flyers directed callers to the Poem Recovery Center, where they heard the featured poems. Miami’s edition included recordings in Spanish and Haitian Creole while in the fall of 2018 at the Free Verse: Charleston Poetry Festival’s version spotlighted local legends Lizelia Augusta Jenkins Moorer (1868–1936) and Dubose Heyward (1885–1940). Encore presentations have been mounted at Poets House, Berl’s Brooklyn Poetry Shop, and Capturing Fire International Queer Poetry Summit and Slam.
